Homework Help

State clearly that you expect homework to be completed.

  1. Don’t assume children know.
  2. State homework is a top priority.
  3. Explain how you want it done.

Set up a daily homework time.

  1. Get your child in the habit of doing their homework at a regularly scheduled time.
  2. If homework is a top priority it should be scheduled.
  3. Set up a time with your child that will be the same time and place every day.

Check to see that your child is doing homework.

  1. A parent must monitor to help the child stay on track.
  2. A parent must also check that homework is done.

Provide positive support.

  1. When your child is doing their homework, recognize it!
  2. Don’t take it for granted that your child does their homework.

Back up your words with actions.

  1. Begging and pleading do not work.
  2. Give your child a CHOICE, explain that homework is a top responsibility. You must meet your responsibilities before you receive privileges. “If you choose not to do your homework, you choose not to have privileges.”

Work with the teacher.

  1. Stay in touch with the teacher via agenda book and\or phone calls.
  2. Teamwork is the best approach.
